As most of you have already noticed, there are quite a lot of changes going on in the game recently.
First off, I'd like to point out that we are doing a complete overhaul of our rules system. It was felt on both sides (staff and players) that our rules have become too dense over time and were starting to put unnecessary limitations on people. So we decided it would be best to wipe the slate clean and start with a fresh new ruleset and play it by ear.
Our current rules are:
- No hacking
- No Griefing
- No lag machines
- No being disrespectful
We feel these are pretty clear-cut and to the point while still covering most of the bases we need covered. All the other fluff has been lifted and freedom shall ring once again here on DwD. This includes lifting the PG13 mindset we've been trying to maintain, as long as people dont go overboard with it. We staff members are going to work harder at dealing punishments for rule breakers in the future instead of simply applying more layers of rules on top of rules. But, please note that these rules are always subject to change, so always be sure you check up on them from time to time to ensure you are up to speed.
We also went ahead and removed a lot of limitations that were implemented in the form of custom limiting plugins and gamerules. As stated, we've decided to take a more reactive approach rather than proactive in how we staff our server. This means any person or persons that are abusing anything in the game will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, rather than implement a custom plugin that blanket handles limiting all players across the board.
Some of the limitations and gamerules will be apparent which were removed, others will not be so easily spotted. This is one of those areas staff members will remain discrete, so don't ask. We just wanted to let everyone know we are thinking of you all and we have made some changes in your favor
One of the bigger changes that every player will notice almost immediately is with McMMO. There is now a 1000 level cap limit to all skills. Any players that had higher levels have been reduced to the newly imposed cap limit. There is literally zero difference between a level 1000 miner and a level 9001 miner, for example. There are zero benefits to continue the grind past 1000 and all it was doing was segregating players away from the community spirit that we strive to maintain here at DwD. Now instead of burying your shovel into a desert, or your pickaxe into a cave, or your axes to a hoard of pigmen in a small room, you can now come out of these dwellings and mingle with the rest of the community and have some actual real fun ^_^
Since there are already a dozen players with max stats across a multitude of skills, the McMMO rank titles have become utterly useless and thus have been removed. With 6+ people in nearly every skill having 1000 levels there was no proper way to hand out or even determine any titles, so we simply removed them. But worry not! All is not lost, as we do have something huge planned for the not so distant future to replace these ranks and titles. Something a bit more community oriented (yet still highly competitive) that is sure to win the hearts of both PvP and PvE type players. And best of all, those willing will get a chance to contribute in working on this project with us staff members. (More details on this will be disclosed at a later time)
As with all major (and sometimes minor) changes there will be rage quitters. It's honestly expected, but it is never fun to see happen. With that said, we have already had a few staff members step down from their volunteer roles due to difference in opinions. We will be looking to replace these team members in the very near future, but there will not be an application process this time around (the last one was a disaster). Things will run its course for now and we will make minor changes here and there where we feel tweaks are needed over the next several weeks. We still have our minigames that are planned to open very soon, including the CTF maps from last month's build contest. Plus a whole lot more.
For my final thought of the evening, it has also become apparent that the player base is starting to dwindle down to the single digit numbers for a good majority of the day/night. This is one of the contributing factors to the changes outlined above. To further help alleviate this situation will are going to spend some of the donation money we received in some paid advertising to help boast our server out to the masses. So, be mindful that you will see an influx in new player joins and don't forget to welcome them to the DwD community the way we welcomed each and every one of you ^_^
Thanks. That is all for now.
